The Spring 2014 lecture series at Kent State University, Florence Program, saw the participation of 4 European professionals and 1 special guest from California whose activity spans the whole spectrum of architecture-related activities, from industrial design to art and urban installations, from videos to architectural projects, ranging in scale from residential to institutional to urban design. The lectures were fine-tuned with the programs developed in the studios and in the theory classes.
Luis Urculo’s lecture, for example, and his latest videos made to present architectural projects and design concepts, was especially catering to the students enrolled in the “Video, Media and Architecture” class, whose course objective is to “explore and reflect upon the critical role media (books, magazines, the Web, videos) played in the advancement of the architectural discourse between the 20th and the 21st Century up to today.”
Thom Faulder’s and Carlos Arroyo’s lectures were especially important for the architecture students, since many of the projects they presented explored similar conditions (urban and programmatic) as the ones they dealt with in the architecture studios.
Stefano Pujatti’s and Manuel Aires Mateus’s projects, and their keen attention to design details, materiality and light conditions, were especially interesting for the interior design students.
